Scaling the Perfect Massage: How Nvidia Technology Enables Aescape’s Vision for Personalized Wellness
At Aescape, our mission is clear: to deliver a transformative, precisely tailored massage experience. To achieve this kind of immersive precision, we’ve used powerful AI and simulation tools and technology from NVIDIA. From calibration to digital replication, NVIDIA accelerated computing enables us to develop an advanced perception system that aligns with each individual’s unique body, offering massages that feel natural, responsive, and deeply personalized.
Calibration Precision with Simulation
Precision begins with calibration. To create a seamless, synchronized experience, our system must accurately determine the exact 3D position of each depth sensor relative to the robotic arms, massage table, and other components. NVIDIA Omniverse —a platform of application programming interfaces, software development kits, and services — enables us to easily integrate Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD) and NVIDIA RTX rendering technologies and take calibration to the next level so that our sensors align precisely in every setup. Even the slightest deviations in sensor positioning can impact the quality and accuracy of our massages—something we strive not to compromise on.
Omniverse allows us to build pipelines for easily importing our mechanical designs (CAD models) and enhance them with realistic materials and textures that match our physical systems, maintaining fidelity between the virtual and physical worlds. These virtual replicas digital twins allow us to validate the entire calibration process at scale, simulating a wide range of scenarios to deliver consistent performance. NVIDIA Isaac Sim, a reference application for robot simulation built on Omniverse, enables us to introduce realistic variations into these simulations, mimicking real-world manufacturing differences and sensor noise. This helps us verify that our calibration algorithms work reliably across numerous setups, allowing us to scale with confidence.
Synthetic Data Generation for Precision Body Mapping
At the heart of a tailored massage is accurate body mapping. Our depth sensors work together to generate a unified 3D representation, or point cloud, of each individual’s body. This data then feeds into a perception pipeline where we isolate the client’s form, segmenting out other objects to focus purely on their unique body contours. From there, we create a digital model that informs every targeted massage movement.
With NVIDIA Omniverse Replicator, a framework for building custom synthetic data generation (SDG) pipelines, we generate highly realistic synthetic data to support and refine this body mapping process. Synthetic data not only allows us to accurately label every point in a virtual environment, but also helps us overcome the time-consuming process of collecting real-world information, enabling us to train our deep learning models to recognize and adapt to body variations. This SDG process is essential, as it means our system can consistently provide safe and effective massage experiences.
Scaling Performance
We’re constantly working to ensure our systems perform as designed across locations and installations. The digital twin created in NVIDIA’s Omniverse allows us to model a vast array of potential massage scenarios, enabling us to refine our perception models and algorithms. These simulations include physically plausible interactions that inform how our robotic arms adjust to unique body models, enhancing the massage experience with every iteration.
To handle the computational demands of these simulations at scale, we leverage AWS EC2 instances for distributed rendering. This cloud infrastructure enables us to run multiple simulations concurrently across a fleet of high-performance compute instances.
By simulating various environmental conditions, mechanical configurations, and user positions, we can rapidly validate and adjust our software, making data-driven improvements to enhance our system’s perception capabilities. This approach helps ensure that Aescape’s massage systems continue to meet high standards, delivering precision and safety no matter where our technology is deployed.
Bringing Precision and Possibility Together
Omniverse has become a valuable addition to our development process as we work to offer the best possible experiences for our clients. By embracing synthetic data generation, we’re improving our system’s calibration accuracy while building a foundation for continuous refinement of our perception systems. Using NVIDIA’s AI and simulation tools, we’re pioneering an approach to massage that offers each client an experience that is precisely tuned to their needs—moving closer to our mission of transforming how people engage with massages for body and mind wellness.
